Hello all! I have not posted in quite a while, but its because real life was simply taking priority. My last post was April, which led to my college graduation and commissioning into the US Army as a second lieutenant. Following that was working then Basic Officer Leader Course, or BOLC.
Working as a recruiter meant lots of driving and of course getting ready to move across the country with me and my family to new and exciting places. But this unfortunately left little time to play or paint, much less blog. It also meant it was time to get back into fighting shape again.
Next came BOLC, which is in the delightful area of Fort Lee, VA. While it is initial entry training for officers, it is in no way a basic training and thus I brought my 40k stuff with…well, the infantry at least and a few rhinos. I just didn’t have the realistic capability to bring my thirsters or chariots with me. So, the sheer brutality of my daemon army was left behind. No chariots, blood slaughterers, thirsters, greater daemons at in fact, or even the crushers came with. So, it was gonna be a CSM fight if I got to play any. My biggest challenge was a) finding the time and b) finding a venue. The venue was handled. FTW games is in Richmond and WOW what an awesome store. They are the store that runs spikeybitz.com. I hope to do a blog on them before I leave. I had the opportunity to play the FoB qualifier there and though I got my ass handed to me quite handily, I had a blast. Met some REALLY good guys and learned a lot about airbrushing. Which of course led me to want a new army, an army I could REALLY play with an airbrush on….Tyranids. But that is for another entry. However, while I was there I marveled at the amazing stock in store and I even got best painted army. So the day was a win overall.
On the training side, we started with marksmanship and tactical training. By far my favorite, coming from a combat arms background. However, because I am in the logistics field now many other LTs disliked the range. However, it’s nice to get back to training how to engage real enemy in combat. However, this led to tests and evaluations, and now we are preparing to go to the field for the first time in 10 weeks.
Luckily, I am starting to build up some nids, though they are not painted yet. It will not be a hoard of gribblys, but I hope to have a small army for the tournament at FTW games next Saturday. It will be my first time playing the army and I look forward to playing the underdog army again since my current army, Daemons, went from being an underdog to a powerhouse. There are quite a few Daemon players at FTW, lots of summoning. Several of them are ATC champions, running the best possible Tau and Daemon lists. So, while I prepare for a day that will inevitably one beating after another, even a modest loss will be a win in my mind.
Well, thanks for reading and it’s glad to be back,
So I dug out all my models to appraise where I was on some of my units. Saw a lot of touchups and highlights that still need to be done/redone. The soul grinder is currently under construction as is the second scratch built DP of Nurgle. I need to apply some bases. I am strongly debating saying screw it and redoing all the daemonettes. I do not like how they are painted and I don’t think I ever will. I think i will repaint them more purple with orange, yellow, and white highlights.
So, here is the army as a whole-
And here are some closeups…
My flesh hounds of khorne
My bloodletters led by what has been referred to as a “secret HQ” model who has rending and has destroyed a Ctan as well as two Kans (the two Kans were in a single assault phase). He still has a little paint work to have done as well as touch up his chain connections with the skulls.
The flamers. I have some final details to finish on these guys and I have to base them (oh and fix some chips…damn metal models), but as I use them pretty rarely and they look pretty nice now, it’s pretty low on my to do list.
Keeper of secrets. Gonna redo his blade.
my first scratch build. Turned out great. Recently glossed his eye to give it that wet look.
My currently used models, the forces of Nurgle. These Guys have really cranked out the wins as of late. Who said fluffy mono-god lists aren’t competitive?
Lastly, chief of the pack, my bloodthirster. Still contemplating how to improve his paint job without risking having to redo the whole damn thing…cuz he took a loong time to paint.
Well, that is the current state of affairs for the daemons. Next- the state of affairs for the growing Skaven IG force.
Thanks for reading,
